Abstract
The purpose of this research was to evaluate the reliability and validity of Korean version of Daily Hassles Scale for Korean Workers(DHS-KW). In order to determine the appropriate items, reliability, content validity and construct validity of DHS-KW, we use I-T analysis, Cronbach¢¥s alpha coefficient and factor analysis. For the concurrent validity, we administer a stressor scale and a stress reaction scale both of which has high reliability and validity. Authors administered self check questionnaires including 45 items-DHS-KW translated from Japanese Daily Hassles Scale invented by Tomioka et al, NIOSH Generic Job Stress Questionnaire to workers from different four private companies located primarily in the Seoul metropolitan area. The subject was consisted of 355 men and 81 women. Their average ages was 35.1 years and 25.9 years, respectively. The survey was conducted under the name of an Adult Disease Prevention Survey, and the respondents gave written informed consent. Statistical analysis was conducted by SPSS v10.0 for Windows.
As a result of factor analysis, five factors were extracted from 29 items (consisting of job-related problems, personal relationships, domestic and daily problems, health problems and lack of time to spare). Cronbach¢¥s alpha coefficients for each factor range from 0.73 to 0.86. The correlation coefficient between the total score for the 29 items and Job Demand of the NIOSH was 0.56(p<0.01), respectively. These results demonstrated the reliability and validity of the DHS-KW. This confirms that the DHS-KW is a reliable scale for assessing worker¢¥s daily stress including job stress. The comparative research related to the health influence of stress in Japan and Korea by the same stress scale is expected in the future.
